How to make a fascinator with dollar store supplies
One of the things that I used that probably isn’t associated with fancy hats was a loofah. A few snips made it fall apart and then I had the perfect netting material to use. On top of that I added some purple and pink feathers and then glued on several of the fake flowers I got at The Dollar Tree that look more like butterflies than flowers. My goal with these fascinators was to have fun and be extra gaudy. If you want to go smaller and simpler, it’s up to you. The butterfly flowers move and sway when you walk, which is extra fun for binging on snacks while watching the royal wedding. The next one my kids got all excited when they saw me pick up the butterfly net but I had to burst their bubble that I was using it on one of the hats. However the blue hat wound up being everyone’s favorite so I think they’re OK with it. To make the blue hat I cut up a butterfly net, using the net part on the front of the hat similar to a birdcage veil. Next I pulled apart a blue lei and used the flowers to make an entire clump of blue flowers. Finally I glued teal feathers onto some of the long fake grass pieces that came with the fake flowers I had bought and attached them to the fascinator. The white one was made with a white loofah, a feather boa and a white roses. I also used more of the fake grass pieces to make the loops that you commonly see in fascinators. Believe it or not, the pink one was made with a tutu from the dollar store. With flowers and feathers added, it’s the perfect bit of bling to make it really stand out.A few notes about DIY fascinators….
- You will have a blast making these
- I used hot glue to quickly assemble these. Anytime you use really cheap items, like ones from the dollar store, they melt easier or conduct heat easier. It’s much easier to get glue gun burns when working with cheap products. If you’re going to make these with children, either have them tell you where to put the items and you glue them down or use a low temperature glue gun.
- These would make for a great party idea! Throw a ton of items out on a table and have a girls night making super gaudy fascinators.

These look so fun to make! What is the approximate width and length of the cut out from the paper plate?
